Welcome to The Horrors of Horror Writing.

You gotta have guts to be a horror writer.

You gotta have warm, sticky guts; the kind that spill out on the floor, splash over the wall, drench your victims in buckets of blood…

But it helps to have the other kind of guts, too.

In this feature, we’ll be exploring some of the most harrowing experiences and terrifying tasks writers face these days. We’ll delve into shrinking markets, bloodthirsty editors, and psychotic formatting. We’ll incant sinister rituals over our characters, our chapters, our plot. We’ll stare into the dark abyss of slush piles and rejection forms, into the very wretched souls ourselves, those warped and loveless abominations we call writers.

And then maybe we’ll have a laugh or two.

So join us every week for dastardly updates and vicious tales. It will be a grisly journey, not for the faint of heart…but, maybe somewhere among the guts and gore, you’ll find something that will be useful for carving your own way through your own horror writing career.

And, always, thanks for reading.

Lorna D. Keach woke up one morning and realized that summoning Baphomet was really hard, so she probably should try blogging instead. Her fiction's been featured in magazines like The Harrow, Theatre of Decay, Dog Oil Press, AlienSkin, 69 Flavors of Paranoia, and The Willows. When not practicing her necromantic rituals, Lorna is probably smoking, knitting, or hoarding vintage typewriters. She lives in Lawrence, KS.
