DarkMarkets.com – Help Wanted!

I am looking for 5-6 individuals that are experienced in horror fiction writing/publishing that would be interested in contributing (hopefully regularly) to darkmarkets.com!

Needed:

  • Some individuals to update the database with new markets as they are found.  This is done by scouting the web, getting tips, keeping an eye on general speculative fiction listing databases. If updating the market listings is all you want to do – this is more than helpful and would be greatly appreciated!
  • I would like to have someone that is starting out detail their experiences (submitting their fiction to publishers, posting feedback/replies from publications, challenges, frustrations, accomplishments, just all the ins and outs).  It would be nice if you were published in at least one publication (online or in print).  This is not necessary, however, just email me a few of your stories. You’ll find my contact information below.
  • Experienced writers that would love to give advice to aspiring newbies.  Writing how to, formatting etc.
  • A publisher that could talk about their industry, how you handle the onslaught of submissions, what you look for, how you’re staying alive financially. These are just examples.
  • Reviews of horror fiction books, magazines, websites. Edit Jan 20, 2010  – now filled!
  • Interviews with accomplished writers, publishers. Edit Jan 20, 2010 – now filled!
  • If you have a blog that has great content and would be interested in x-posting some of your articles here that would work too!  Just send me a link to your blog and I’ll check it out!
  • What else?  What would you like to see? If you’d like to contribute but have a different idea, email me!

Compensation:

  • The footer of your articles/posts will include a link to your website, your bio & a photo. You can see my example here: http://darkmarkets.com/?p=150.  (I write in the third person because it’s fancy) This will be formatted further and included on the front page posts.
  • Free advertising in the right column of this page. Must be 125×125.
  • A link to your website on the links page.
  • Your bio/photo/link on the about page.
  • If you are reviewing a book/magazine, etc. that is on amazon.com, you are free to use a customized referral link. But if you don’t like the book, don’t recommend it only to get paid! I think that’s common sense, but might as well put it in here. ;-)
  • I cannot contribute monetarily.

I was 19 when I first started darkmarkets.com and very passionate about horror fiction.  I couldn’t find a market database that was solely listing horror writing markets (or at least one that was up to date – I can now see how that happens!). However, I started my webhosting business at the same time in 2001 and that pretty much consumes my time now.

I’m one of those people who find it hard to ask for help, maybe you can relate?  It’s just come to the point where I either have to send DM to the graveyard or get some passionate individuals involved!

If you’d like to contribute email me at randi@darkmarkets.comPlease include:

  • What you’d be interested in doing.
  • How often you think you could contribute/make updates. Once a week/month, etc. I’m not a post Nazi however, just want to get a general idea!
  • Links to your websites (professional, blogs) and social networks if you belong to any.
  • A link to some writing samples (or paste them in the body of your email)

If you don’t want to contribute regularly but may be interested in contributing a few articles (how tos, reviews, interviews, etc.) that is fine too!  In that case, simply email me the articles you’d like to be considered for publication – along with a short bio, your website url and a photo.  In this case, your compensation would be the credit/bio/link at the bottom of your article.
